Megan Skupny
Tracey and John Skupny founded Lang & Reed Napa Valley in 1993 with a mission to explore the unique qualities of Cabernet Franc, crafting expressive and enjoyable wines. Their journey began in the restaurant trade in Kansas City, where their passion for wine led them to California in 1980 and ultimately to Napa Valley in 1984. Inspired by the exceptional characteristics of Cabernet Franc from renowned regions like the Loire Valley and Bordeaux, they developed a prototype wine that balanced aroma and flavor, marking the birth of Lang & Reed. Named after their sons, J Reed and Jerzy Lang, the winery embodies a family-owned and operated ethos, where each bottle tells the story of their lives together.
With nearly 40 years of experience, Tracey and John view winemaking as an intersection of art and science, focused on producing delicious wines that authentically express their grape varieties. Their meticulous fermentation and aging techniques yield wines of substance and structure, emphasizing varietal expression. Collaborating closely with grape growers in Napa Valley, Alexander Valley, Lake County, and Mendocino, they carefully select clones and growing techniques to enhance each variety’s desirable attributes, allowing the concept of terroir to shine through in their wines. Lang & Reed Napa Valley is dedicated to delivering wines that celebrate their commitment to family, craftsmanship, and the unique character of each vineyard.
